    To break away from drudgery at work, it is high time that you keep a count of Fedex days wherein you get the freedom to work on something of your own choice.

    I came across the concept of Fedex days of Atlassian from David Rock’s book Your Brain at work.

    This intrigued me and hence I tried this in my day to day work life as well.

    What I have found is that dedicating FedEx days every quarter can indeed improve productivity at work. This is like recharging your batteries.

    Atlassian has a concept of FedEx day wherein employees are free to do a project of their choice with people of their choice and have to show a tangible outcome.The whole idea behind doing the same is as mentioned by David Rock in the following extract from Your Brain at Work..

    “In the workplace, in order to increase fairness some organizations allow employees to have “community days,” where they give their time to a charity of their choice.”

    The software company Atlassian injects a BURST of AUTONOMY into its workplace by setting aside a day each quarter when employees can work on any project they choose , however they want with whomever they like.

    This is a masterclass in explaining how intrinsic motivation can help encourage innovation and creativity in modern day workplaces.
