  • Human brain’s resistance to change

The inherent tendency of the human brain is to resist change

The rational brain or neo cortex has the ability to perform complex analysis but when faced with change , fear or negativity is the most natural by product

The elephant brain or limbic brain understands only signals and when directed by rational brain in a negative manner leads to development of stress and strain

The ideal way to adopt change is to influence both the rational and limbic brain

The rational brain needs to made aware of the bright spots and needs to be provided a crystal clear sense of direction to dissipate fear

On the other hand the limbic brain needs to be constantly motivated with positive vibes to focus on the positives

Adopted from the book titled “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath

  • Why Large Problems need small solutions?

Adopted from the book titled “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath

The rational brain of human beings rederred as the “Rider” is capable of complex analysis and problem solving

Though this is a wonderful gift , can act in negative ways at times

The inherent tendency of the rational brain is to assume that large problems need large complex solutions which is not the case.

Imagine the case of puerperal fever that broke as an epidemic during the 18th and early 19th century. The solution was very simple , cleanliness

This is indeed a lesson in itself

  • Driving away negativity from our rational mind

Adopted from the book titled “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath

It is the inherent tendency of our very own rational brain to search for the problems instead of the solution when faced with a situation

Also this part of the brain which makesvus unique and separate from other animals gets confused when made to decide amongst a bunch of options

The two techiques that solve these problems are:

    1) Find the bright spots to help the brain focus on the solutions and positives

    2) Provide it a crystal clear direction to remove ambiguity

  • Pros & Cons of the human rational brain

Adopted from the book totled “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath

The human rational brain has the capacity to analyze and solve problem. This is unique and makes us separate from other animals

    Pros-

    1) Visionary

    2) willing to make short term sacrifices for long term gains

    3) Is able to follow a map , perfectly

    Cons-

    1) Has limited reserves of self control beyond which it gets exhausted

2)In the face of multiple options & ambiguity undergoes “analysis paralysis” and cannot make up mind

    3) Relentless focus on problems than solutions

  • Overcoming obstacles the right way

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”

Imagining obstacle as a wall , we can imagine whats over the wall or we can stand there and crib , the choice is entirely ours.

When obstacles appear in life , he fun is to figure out ways to get over it or around it rather than focusing on what is in the way.

  • Why building relationships in a workplace stand out?

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled , “Together is Better”

Finding excitement at work from events such as meeting a goal , getting a promotion result in a hit of the addictive chemical named “dopamine” which is short lived , temporary.

Building trusting relations , quality of such relationships that help us overcome every obstacle en route winning together as a group , give us feelings of long lasting fulfillment. This gives us true “oxytocin” driven long lasting fulfillment.

Needlessly to say to we as humans , relationships always matter

  • When “expressing vulnerability” is the most powerful feeling

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”

Being vulnerable means admitting we dont know something , we made a mistake and hence ask for help.

If we work in a team or organization with a strong work culture , among others with whom we feel safe , expressing vulnerability seems to be the most powerful feeling in the world.
