    The Art of Judging Strangers

    Daily writing prompt
Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

The art of judging strangers is a very rare skill thus making this a very difficult task. Over the past few weeks I have tried learning about this skill from Malcolm Gladwell’s best selling book.

In his book Talking to Strangers, the author Malcolm Gladwell encourages us to use the same standards of judging strangers with ourselves as well, as mentioned below”

“We think we can easily see into the hearts of others based on the flimsiest of clues. We jump at the chance to judge strangers. We would never do that to ourselves, of course. We are nuanced and complex and enigmatic. But the stranger is easy. If I can convince you of one thing in this book, let it be this: Strangers are not easy.”

Thus next time around when you talk to strangers be mindful of judging them with the right measurement criteria in order to accept or discard them as friends in your life..

  • If you WANT PROGRESS be UNREASONABLE..

The insight adopted from Malcolm Gladwell’s best seller David and Goliath reminds us that un-reasonability and progress go hand in hand..

“As the playwright George Bernard Shaw once put it: “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

The insight has been adopted from Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink..

  • What can the LAW of the FEW teach us?

The insight has been adopted from Malcolm Gladwell’s best selling book Tipping Point.. The insight makes us realize way and means to package information to tip beyond a threshold to create magic.

The Law of the Few says that there are exceptional people out there who are capable of starting epidemics. All you have to do is find them. The lesson of stickiness is the same. There is a simple way to package information that, under the right circumstances, can make it irresistible. All you have to do is find it.”

  • How DO we CHOOSE our FRIENDS? Read what RESEARCH has to say..

The insight adopted from Malcolm Gladwell’s best selling book Tipping Point illuminates us on what research has to say as to how we pick and choose our friends..

“A study at the University of Utah found that if you ask someone why he is friendly with someone else, he’ll say it is because he and his friend share similar attitudes. But if you actually quiz the two of them on their attitudes, you’ll find out that what they actually share is similar activities. We’re friends with the people we do things with, as much as we are with the people we resemble. We don’t seek out friends, in other words. We associate with the people who occupy the same small, physical spaces that we do.”
