  • As a MARKETEER, are you SURE you know all the “P”’s of MARKETING?This is the RAREST yet MOST IMPORTANT..

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Seth Godin

Aside from the widely accepted “P”s of marketing the most important and often forgotten “P” for marketers is the “Purple Cow”.

By Purple Cow , what Seth Godin means is creating something remarkable and building a story around it to create customer stickiness.

  • This is why ZARA the brand , has such a cult following

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Seth Godin from his book Purple Cow

As it becomes easier to monitor informal consumer networks, the winners will be companies that figure out what’s working fastest – and do it more (and figure out what’s not working – and kill it). Zara, a fast-growing retailer in Europe, changes its clothing line every three or four weeks. By carefully watching what’s working and what’s not, they can evolve their lineup far faster than the competition can ever hope to.

  • The RULES of modern day marketing have changed. This is how

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Seth Godin from his book Purple Cow

The old rule was this: CREATE SAFE, ORDINARY PRODUCTS AND COMBINE THEM WITH GREAT MARKETING. The new rule is: CREATE REMARKABLE PRODUCTS THAT THE RIGHT PEOPLE SEEK OUT.”

  • Playing SAFE is like playing with FIRE.This is why

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Seth Godin from his book Purple Cow

In your career, even more than for a brand, being safe is risky. The path to lifetime job security is to be remarkable.”

  • To be REMARKABLE, do not expect UNANIMOUS praise. This is why

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Seth Godin from the Purple Cow

If you’re remarkable, it’s likely that some people won’t like you. That’s part of the definition of remarkable.Nobody gets unanimous praise–ever. The best the timid
can hope for is to be unnoticed. Criticism comes to those who stand out.”

  • This quote unearths the real truth behind BEING REMARKABLE

Adopted from the following great quote of Seth Godin from his book Purple Cow

“Nobody says “Yeah, I’d like to set myself up for some serious criticism!” And yet the only way to be remarkable is to do just that.”

  • Don’t forget this “P” of marketing – Seth Godin’s masterclass

Aside from the widely accepted “P”s of marketing the most important and often forgotten “P” for marketers is the “Purple Cow”.

By Purple Cow , what Seth Godin means is creating something remarkable and building a story around it to create customer stickiness.

  • “Purple Cow” by Seth Godin – key insights

Purple Cow , the book by Seth Godin , which talks of doing something remarkable to stand out of the clutter , to me , has the following key lesson.

    1. In the age when consumers have too much of choices and too less of time , creating a purple cow and framing a compelling story around it is the key to stand out and be remarkable.
    2. Once the story is ready provided the product is equally good , the job of the modern day marketer is to take the purple cow to the innovators and early adopters. They would then like it , sneeze and spread the idea virus to the early and late majority in the idea diffusion curve.
    3. This would enable the product or idea to tip.
  • Authentic storytelling to create purple cows

All Marketers are Liars By Seth Godin relates the concept of authentic storytelling to creating purple cows(something remarkable). The central idea that resonated with me , in terms of modern day marketing , is as follows:

Authentic storytelling by creating frames understanding the worldview of a consumer , would resonate with the consumer, make him tell a bigger lie to himself supporting his own worldview. The best case is when the consumer is willing to spread this lie to more and more of his friends and acquaintances , with passion.

This would thus make the idea spread.Fibs as against frauds can be used to support the story being told to the consumer.
