  • Relationship between “fulfillment” & sense of purpose

The human brain is naturally oriented to respond positively when shown a “sense of purpose”.

Agree it or not this is how our brain is known to respond right from the caveman times.

Needless to say , fulfillment happens when our brain senses a true purpose. This is when the chemical named “oxytocin” flows and provides true fulfillment.

  • How “Homo Sapiens”stood the test of time?

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”.

Right from the caveman times till the modern day , several specific stronger than us have failed to survive the test of time yet we “homo sapiens” or humans have stood the test of time.

The biggest reason for the same is the “Neo Cortex” or rational brain of human beings which gives us the ability to think rationally and helps in problem solving.

Though strength is important , the power of social bonds that help people collaborate with each other , feel safe and vulnerable and hence fight for each other is a unique skill  that has saved us from extinction when several species around us have become extinct.

Very thought provoking insight provided in the book that I felt sharing.

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”

Innovative workplaces are nurtured by visionary infinite minded leaders.

Our human brain is oriented to feel comfortable given a sense of purpose and direction.

Truly great leaders know this scientific fact and hence to lead a “trusting team” they show their team a sense of purpose.

Once our brain understands about a specific purpose and direction , it is creative enough to devise innovative means to reach the destination overcoming obstacles that can come in the way.

The sense of purpose and direction provided separates great leaders from the ordinary “placeholder” leaders.

  • Side effects of “instant gratification”

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”.

Modern day instant gratification seems very luring for a Gen X millennial.

In the past ordering a gift and physically receiving it used to take time.Nowadays order something from Amazon and you immediately receive the product.

For watching a blockbuster movie one had to wait for a long while.Nowadays Netflix , youtube.com enable instant gratification.

Even for that matter making friends is so easy courtesy social media e.g. Facebook.

Though instant gratification is something the human race is proud about , this has given rise to a bunch of side effects which are indeed very harmful.

Not getting something instantly can lead to depression , anger and hence the number of suicidal cases , mental ill health cases are on the rise for a modern day millennial.

Though often overlooked , is a serious topic to reflect on.

  • Social media addiction and alcoholism

Social media abuse is increasing by the day.

Getting addicted to social media is very common in the age of high speed internet and smart phones

Like alcoholism , social media craving is addictive and both release the addictive chemical named “dopamine” that causes short term happiness.

As a result of this , addicts crave for instant gratification , in the absence of which depression results

  • The power of human bonds

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”

Social media and its proliferation has made life convenient and made virtual connections a reality

In spite of this , social media or for that matter video calls can never be a substitute for “face to face” communication.

This is because all human beings are social animals and crave for social connections and bonds to feel safe.Nothing can be a substitute for this.
