  • What kind of individuals do great companies hire? – Simon Sinek quote

The follow amazing Simon Sinek quote just highlights the difference between the great and not so great companies….

Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them. People are either motivated or they are not. Unless you give motivated people something to believe in, something bigger than their job to work toward, they will motivate themselves to find a new job and you’ll be stuck with whoever’s left.– Simon Sinek

  • What draws us towards great leaders & organizations – Simon Sinek quote

Human beings right from the caveman times have always felt a sense of belonging.Human bonds are unique to homo sapiens and separates us from other animals around us.

The need to feel safe in a group is a basic instinct that all human beings have and are attracted by.This is the reason we perform at our best when led by leaders who make us feel safe and in teams where we feel a sense of belonging. The sense of belonging and the fulfillment as a result of the same results in the flow of oxytocin in our veins.

The following great quote crisply amplifies the message mentioned above..

“We are drawn to leaders and organizations that are good at communicating what they believe. Their ability to make us feel like we belong, to make us feel special, safe and not alone is part of what gives them the ability to inspire us.” – Simon Sinek

Please find below an awesome Simon Sinek quote on the same….

  • The journey of WHY Discovery for individuals – Lessons learnt from “Find Your Why”

Find Your Why from Simon Sinek , David Mead and Peter Docker is the follow up book to Start With Why by Simon Sinek.

The Why Discovery for individuals is something I found simply fascinating.

The distance the authors have gone in explaining the scientific approach to discovering WHY is simply awesome.

An individual who needs to discovery his/her WHY needs to first find a friend or a trustworthy person who would help with the discovery.Such a person should be chosen very judiciously. The person needs to be a very good listener and should not have prejudiced views.Eagerness and inquisitiveness in helping a friend discover WHY is also a very important criteria.

After the facilitator is chosen the following are the three steps:

    1. Gather stories about the life of the person – These stories should have some special place in the life of the person.
    2. Find out patterns – From the facts noted from the stories , try to find out meaning and connect the dots.
    3. Draft a WHY – Based on the above analysis , try to draft a WHY in the following format:

             TO___________________(contribution) SO THAT_____________________(impact)

The draft WHY is in no means going to be 100% perfect at the first attempt and this needs to be refined going forward. All this exercise would do is to set a foundation for creation of a WHY.

For more details I would sincerely encourage readers to go through the book FIND YOU WHY.Believe me it would an absolutely unbelievable experience.

  • Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle

Golden Circle of Simon Sinek summarized as follows:

    WHY Means The Purpose

    HOW Means The Process

    WHAT Means The Result

  • Construct of a “WHY” – Lessons learnt from FIND YOUR WHY

We have all come across concepts of WHY , Golden circle , Circle of Safety by Simon Sinek in his books Start with Why as well as Leaders Eat Last.

The book Find Your Why goes one step further in trying to help individuals as well as tribes find their own WHY.

To summarize the construct of a WHY would look like:

    TO_________________________________________________SO THAT________________________________________

The First dash after TO is for contribution and the one after SO THAT is for impact.

The contribution relates to something which is not selfish but out of which others around us get benefitted as well. The impact is not in material or monetary terms but the service is does to society to enrich our lives in turn and which in turn would give us a feeling of fulfillment.

There can be ONE and only ONE why for individuals or groups and if we lead our life around the WHY our lives would become much more meaningful and enriching.

For more details I would encourage readers to go through the book FIND YOUR WHY.It is a fascinating book and is sure to enlighten the lives of individuals as well as groups.

  • Nested WHYs in organizations and their meaning – Learnings from “Find Your Why”

Find You Why by Simon Sinek , David Mead , Peter Docker is the second step to Start With Why by Simon Sinek.

This is an awesome book wherein the authors have carved out the steps to do self as well as tribe(group) WHY discovery.

Among myriad amazing concepts outlines in the book the one that I particularly liked and could relate to was the concept of WHY of an organization and its relation to a TREE.

Like a tree has roots and the trunk as its foundation , every organization should have a foundational WHY which would be the meaning as to why the organization exists. This should be the superset of all other WHYs existing inside the organization.

Like a tree has branches , so does an organization have various departments. Each department would have individual WHYs which in some way or the other should be derived out of the organizational WHY else the departments would not in line with the organization goal.

Finally like we have nests on branches , so do organizational departments have individual employees work with blood , sweat and tear to help the organization meet its goals.

This relation between a TREE and ORGANIZATION in helping understand the need for WHY at various levels of an organization is an unbelievable concept outlined in the book which is not only realistic but memorable as well..

For those who have still not had the privilege of reading this book < I would highly recommend reading this book to achieve enlightenment.
