  • DON’T be a GENIUS LEADER with THOUSAND FOLLOWERS for this REASON..

The following leadership insight has been adopted from Jim Collins’s best seller Good to Great.

Great organizations led by LEVEL 5 leaders, first get the RIGHT PEOPLE on the BUS before deciding on the answers to the STRATEGY related questions. Thus these organizations answer the “WHO” related questions before taking the “WHAT” related decisions.

On the other hand, organizations led by a GENIUS leader with THOUSAND FOLLOWERS, decide on the “WHAT” questions without figuring out the SUCCESSION plan i.e. the “WHO” related questions.

This is precisely the reason an ORGANIZATION led by a GENIUS LEADER with 1000 followers, are doomed in the long run after the demise of the GENIUS LEADER.

Adopted from the following great insight shared by Jim Collins from the book Great by Choice

Entrenched myth: Successful leaders in a turbulent world are bold, risk-seeking visionaries. Contrary finding: The best leaders we studied did not have a visionary ability to predict the future. They observed what worked, figured out why it worked, and built upon proven foundations. They were not more risk taking, more bold, more visionary, and more creative than the comparisons. First Who … Then What. We expected that good-to-great leaders would begin by setting a new vision and strategy. We found instead that they first got the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats—and then they figured out where to drive it. The old adage “People are your most important asset” turns out to be wrong. People are not your most important asset. The right people are.”
