  • Knowing the differences between “Type I” and “Type X” personalities

Adopted from Daniel Pink’s book Drive.

EXtrinsic Motivation is considered the primary driver behind the Carrot and Stick method of motivating people.Reward for doing routine bound work effectively and Punishment for NOT being able to do the same , brings in compliance and is perfect for a factory model kind of work environment.

Hence Type X  people are short term oriented and are driven by eXtrinsic rewards in order to get work done. The moment the rewards disappear , the purpose is lost.

As against this the modern day age of infinite game needs more Type I people who are Intrinsically motivated for doing social good without worrying about rewards and other short term gains.

Being intrinsically driven make someone realize benefits for the long term , society in general without having to focus on short term oriented microscopic aspects.

Thus having more Type I personality oriented people is the need of the hour.

  • Why should we SERVE THOSE WHO SERVE OTHERS?

Generosity is doing something selflessly expecting nothing in RETURN.

Serving others without expecting anything in return is sure to give the server FULFILLMENT and flow of the “love hormone” named “Oxytocin” which is known to enhance immunity.

The following quote from Simon Sinek encourages us to lead our lives for the service of others to attain fulfillment.

“To LIVE our LIVES with an INFINITE MINDSET is to LIVE a LIFE of SERVICE.”

  • Infinite minded players do not fear “Disruption”

“Where a FINITE minded player fears things that are NEW or DISRUPTIVE , the INFINITE MINDED player REVELS in them.”

    Adopted from Simon Sinek’s quotes

  • Making the most out of our LIVES

The following quote from Simon Sinek offers us advice to change our outlook and lead our lives with fulfillment since life is short lived.

Life is NOT a competition , it is a GAME.

It is NOT about WINNING or LOSING , it is about all the FUN we can have before it ENDS.”

Knowing LIFE is an infinite game can help us lead our lives with more fulfillment.

  • Infinite minded players do not fear “Disruption”

The following insightful quote aptly highlights the difference between finite minded and infinite minded players.

“Where a FINITE minded player fears things that are NEW or DISRUPTIVE , the INFINITE MINDED player REVELS in them.”

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s leadership quotes

  • Prerequisites to start a “Revolution”

We can start a revolution when we know what we stand against. To create change that lasts , however we need to know what we stand against.

Knowing what we stand against can be made easier if we know about the “Just Cause”.This should be deeply personal to the person who espouses it and the followers.

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book titled “Together is Better”.

  • Performance over Trust or vice versa ?

Simon Sinek in his book titled “Infinite Game” has enlightened readers on the enhanced need to trust and hence EQ in the modern day game of business to outwit finite mindset based businesses.

A look at the comparison between “Performance” & “Trust” brings out that fact as to why Trust is more needed for survival the infinite game of business.

    Performance Trust
    IQ(Intelligence Quotient) EQ(Emotional Quotient)
High performance & low trust leads to a toxic environment that kills creativity High trust even if performance is low or medium is much desirable since performance can definitely be enhanced
Various measures and metrics present to gauge performance No proper metric in place to measure trust
High performance even at the cost of low trust can lead to ethical fading encouraged by finite mindset leaders Low trust has zero tolerance in “trusting teams” part of high performing organization led by infinite mindset visionaries
High performance without trust can at most work in the short term High trust with low or medium performance is the perfect balance for survival in the infinite game
  • Similarities between Jim Collin’s BHAG and “Moonshot”

Referring to the below mentioned URL , Jim Collin’s BHAG as mentioned in his book “Built to Last” has been cited here for the purpose of illustrating its similarity with a “Moonshot”.

    https://www.jimcollins.com/concepts/bhag.html

“A BHAG (pronounced “Bee Hag,” short for “Big Hairy Audacious Goal”) is a powerful way to stimulate progress. A BHAG is clear and compelling, needing little explanation; people get it right away. Think of the NASA moon mission of the 1960s. The best BHAGs require both building for the long term AND exuding a relentless sense of urgency: What do we need to do today, with monomaniacal focus, and tomorrow, and the next day, to defy the probabilities and ultimately achieve our BHAG?”

Though a moonshot and BHAG both apparently do not look like finite goals yet they are possible to achieve which does not make them a suitable fit in an infinite game where the vision should be one which is impossible to attain , yet entice followers to be part of the same for leaving behind a legacy.

Thus this makes both BHAG and “Monnshot” different from a “Just Cause”.This point has been mentioned by Simon Sinek in his book titled “The Infinite Game”.
