    Serving those who serve others by showing generosity leads to fulfillment in our lives.

    Simon Sinek narrates his experience of getting stuck up in Afghanistan , after having lost all hopes of returning back to his home.

    During that moment of hopelessness he like ordinary humans became obsessed with his own goals and forgot about the principles of leadership he energizes people with.

    This real life experience when his back was against the wall , leading up to the magical realization that dawned on him , is a true treat for people who are seeking inspiration and motivation.

    The very fact that serving those who serve others can act as a panacea and result in fulfillment is something that Simon realized through his life experience and is sure to inspire more and more of his followers.

    Nelson Mandela had perfected this leadership art.Practicing being the last to speak is by no means a weak trait of leadership.

    It needs great subject matter knowledge , empathy and listening skills in giving  everyone in a group a chance to express their views and synergize the findings at the end.

    This is an art he had learned from his father while accompanying him for tribal meetings.

    True principle centred leadership needs empathy , listening skills to make the members in the group feel as if they belong..

  • Subtle differences between “knowledge” and “wisdom”

    Knowledge is related to someone being intelligent with good IQ levels in learning things really fast.

    Wisdom comes with emotional intelligence in being able to see patterns and connecting the dots..

    What counts is wisdom since it is based on context.Ability to apply knowledge by being mindful of the context is wisdom.

    Nothing explains the difference better than the following great saying of Simon Sinek.

  • Understanding the fine balance between “human bonds” and “technological advancement”

    As technology continues to advance the human race , as social media and various other gadgets take charge of our lives it is important to not lose sight of the fact that human beings still crave for social bonds.This is the biggest difference between us and animals around us , our ability to form human bonds and societies that help us flourish and remain fulfilled.

    In the age of social media(FB , Instagram , Twitter) and instant gratification thanks to Amazon , Flipkart etc. we as human beings are mostly losing human touch and sacrificing the same for virtual bonds e.g. FB friend lists etc.

    Right from the caveman times it is social bonds that has helped us fight all odds and helped us survive when other animal species around us have by now become extinct.

    Social bonds play important role in creation of communities , countries and for that matter companies where we work day and night to earn our daily bread.Though technology has acted as a huge enabler in recent times , it is important not to sacrifice human bonds at the cost of short term happiness provided by technology e.g. social media.We need to strike a golden balance.

    Our brains are oriented to feel charged up and fulfilled through human bonds by feel and touch rather than short term happiness via instant gratification and social media virtual bonds.If we remember DUNBAR number , at one time it is not possible for an human being to maintain contacts with more than 150 individuals but the presence of social media e.g. FB , Twitter we as individuals are driven to proliferate our friend list beyond manageable proportions just for that shot of dopamine.

    The touch of oxytocin flow that we get through genuine human bonds and social relationships make us feel safe and fulfilled.This is pure science of the brain which will remain the same.Our brains are oriented to feel charged up and fulfilled through human bonds by feel and touch rather thame irrespective of the advancement of technology.This has existed right from the caveman times and is the single biggest reason why human beings are different from animals or ROBOTs.

    We as individuals  should take an oath to regularly practice socializing with those around us who believe in what we believe through a sense of feel and touch rather than short lived happiness via the social media.This would enliven us and make our lives more fulfilling.

  • Three goals of pursuing a business

    The three goals for any business , in that order , should be:

    1. Pursue a just cause – To advance a vision bigger than self
    2. Protect people and make them feel safe – Should give rise to “Trusting” and hence “high performing” teams
    3. Generate profit – Money is a fuel for business hence this is going to provide the necessary resources for the future.

    The difference between companies with a “finite” and “infinite” mindset depends on which factor the organization gives emphasis to.

    In an ideal world , with an infinite mindset , 1 and 2 should influence the “Will” of people who in turn would be motivated enough to generate the resource(3)

  • “Just Cause” as an “iceberg” metaphor

    Just cause as defined by Simon in this book is a futuristic vision bigger than ourselves which can lead to true fulfillment in our lives and make our lives more meaningful.

    No matter how much we have achieved we feel we have further to go in the idealized journey of a JUST CAUSE.

    Like an iceberg in a JUST CAUSE all we see is the tip of the iceberg nothing more.The clearer the words , more motivated early adopters are to explore more of the iceberg.

  • Knowing our WHY can help us define our JUST CAUSE

    WHY as coined by Simon in his book “Start With Why” is something that defines us in terms of our values and beliefs.A WHY is formed by connecting the dots from the past.

    A JUST CAUSE on the other hand is a vision for the future that is bigger than ourselves.

    Think of WHY as a the foundation of our house and JUST CAUSE as the futuristic model of the house.

    Thus knowing our WHY can help us better in defining a JUST CAUSE.

  • Know more about the infinite minded “Victorinox”

    Victorinox is the iconic manufacturer of Swiss Army knives.

    Their business model hit a huge low when after 9/11 the US government banned the presence of knives in flight luggage.

    In spite of this they did not lay off people and in turn came up with new innovations and products to make up for the loss due to sale of Swiss Army knives.
