  • The magic of investing in the right people

Infinite minded leaders invest in the “will” of trustworthy people , high in emotional quotient by motivating and inspiring them to be part of the “Just Cause”.

Money cannot buy true will and once the investment in people pay off , high performance teams result which leads to employees putting the “Just Cause” before themselves.

Thus focus on long term goals creates the magic that motivates people towards the vision of the organization.

  • Of ruthless leaders who prioritize numbers at the cost of people

The finite minded leader tends to show a bias for the score. As a result they often opt for choices that demonstrate results in a short time frame even if doing so “regrettably” at the cost of people.

The examples that come to mind are the big banker boys who do not shirk from laying off resources for meeting quarterly numbers for their beloved share holders.

An infinite minded leader , the need of the infinite game of business , in contrast work hard to look beyond the financial pressures of the current day and put people before profit as often as possible.

  • “Will” over “Resources” or vice versa

“Resources” generally come from outside resources like customers or investors and represent the sum of all the financial metrics that contribute to the health of the organization.

“Will” in contrast is intangible and harder to measure. When we talk about will we take about feelings of people when they come to work.

Thus though investing in resources and prioritizing them over people is an easier solution to show short term gains , in the infinite game of business an infinite leader does just the opposite. That is invests in “will” or people who in turn once inspired and motivated generate the resources for running the business ensuring its longevity.

  • A “work environment” related question each leader should ask oneself

An infinite minded leader proactively creates an environment where the team members feel psychologically safe with each other.

In trusting teams members feel safe to express their vulnerability and hence these are teams that end up being “High Performance Teams”

The basic question an infinite minded leader should ask oneself is:

“How do I create an environment in which my people can work to their natural best?”

  • Responsibility of a business in the “Infinite Game”

The responsibility of business is to use its will and resources to advance a cause greater than itself , protect the people and places in which it operates and generate more resources so that it can continue doing all those things for as long as possible.

This is because there is nothing like “winning” in an infinite game.To stay alive in an infinite game an infinite player needs to be aware that sometimes it will be ahead and at other times it can be behind competition.

  • Commonalities between “World Famous Trapeze” & “Infinite minded leader”

Like a world famous trapeze artist would never attempt a brand new death defying act for the first time without a net, neither can a true leader find the courage to lead without the help of others”

Adopted from Simon Sinek’s book The Infinite Game

  • Most amazing thing about “trust”

Trust is built when we do the right thing especially when we are not forced to”

  • Mustering the courage to exhibit an “infinite mindset”

When we have the courage to change our mindset from a finite view to a more infinite view many of the decisions seem bold to those with a more tradional view of the world”
